The Blue Devils are 5 1/2 point favorite against the Hokies, who had a promising start after beating Ohio State in Week 2. Meanwhile, Duke is the only ACC team with one loss, and the Blue Devils might stay one loss throughout the season as they navigate through the remaining of their schedule at home.
”It’s ACC football - no team in the division is a team you can just overlook,” defensive end Dezmond Johnson said Tuesday in one of his interviews. ”Every team in our conference has the ability to beat you if you let them, and if you find yourself thinking, settling, `Oh, we’ll win here, we’re fine,’ overlooking opponents, that’s when it hurts you the most.”
Offensively, Duke averages 204.3 yards in passing and 199.6 in rushing. Defensively, Duke yields 197 yards in passing and 203.4 in rushing.
The Hokies want to avoid losing their fourth straight game in ACC. They’ve never lost four straight and five ACC games in a season since joining the conference in 2004.
Virginia Tech needs to win at two of their three remaining games to keep the streak of 22 in bowl games.
Michael Brewer completed 31 of 49 passes for 345 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-31 home loss to Boston College on November 1. The Hokies have the passing offense but their rushing offense was limited and contained by the opponents.
Offensively, Virginia Tech averages 241.8 yards in passing and 139.9 in rushing. Defensively, Virginia Tech yields 180.1 yards in passing and 165 in rushing.
