LPU outlasts EAC in a nerve-wracking match

 

The Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates delivered the right shots at the right time to beat Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, 73-67, at the National Collegiate Athletics Assocition at the San Juan Arena.

Tied at 67, Pirates Dexter Zamora drilled a floater with 27 ticks left to grab the lead 69-67.

Generals coach Gerry Esplana called a timeout to call a play, however, the Generals couldn’t make a shot to tie or even to overtake, missing a three-pointer and a putback.

LPU coach Bonnie Tan mentioned that the key to their victory was thei defensive aggression.

EAC had a six-point advantage over LPU, 57-51, after three quarters. But the Pirates tightened their defense over the Generals to tie the game at 65-all.

LPU had a seven-point lead over LPU with about four minutes left in the third quarter. They pushed the ball with power to have a 10-0 spurt through Guy Mbbida.

On the other hand EAC pulled back in their own 13-0 unanswered points , 53-47. Ariel Aguilar scored six points in that run.

Wilson Baltazar had 20 points and eight rebounds while Joseph Gabyni scored 14 points and 11 rebounds for the LPU.
