Azkals beat Chinese Taipei

The Philippine National Football team, more popularly known as the Philippine Azkals, dominated its familiar foe, the Chinese Taipei as the match ended with the final score 5-1 to advance to the Finals of the shortened 2014 Peace Cup finals Wednesday night at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

The Philippine Peace Cup 2014 adapted the “two-match international window” rules of the FIFA. Unlike the original rules which was a single Round-robin tournament.

The Azkals early led to 2-0 at halftime behind the goal of Rob Gier in the 25th minute mark, and then Misagh Bahadoran set up James Younghusband for a goal.

There was 30 minute interruption in the 57th mark of the game as heavy rain fell down.
Azkals midfielder Mark Hartmann connected two goals in the second half that put away the Taiwanese from the Philippines.

In the 65th minute Chinese Taipei Chen Yi Wei scored a goal for the Philippines as he tried to stopped Phil Younghusband’s attempt that made the score 3-0.

The Taiwanese was scored only in the 80th minute remaining in the game by Yen Ho Sin.

The Philippine Azkals will be facing Myanmar in the finals, which defeated the Palestine 4-1 in the first game of the tournament.

Palestine and Chinese Taipei will fight for the bronze medal game this Saturday.
