The Baltimore Orioles believe that the ALCS is far from over, but they have to start winning tonight in Game 3 facing the Kansas City Royals at the Kauffman Stadium.
Baltimore manager Buck Showalter said, “”You’ve got to keep from losing three. And that’s obviously oversimplifying it. But you look at teams that compete during the course of the season, they compete on the road, too.”
The Orioles have a winning record on the road in the regular season, 46-35, and that they are desperate to play the Royals after Monday’s postponement because of the rain. The Orioles have to make something different to win this game. They have to play it with defense and offense to overpower the Royals.
Wei-Yin Chen will be the starting pitcher for Baltimore against Jeremy Guthrie.
The Kansas City Royals are becoming the most powerful team in the MLB. They made history by becoming the first team to win four playoff games in extra innings with their 8-6, 10-inning victory Friday and winning another on Saturday. Alcides Escobar broke the tie by delivering a go ahead dough in the ninth inning that brought Kansas 6-4.
”I’ve never had this much time between starts aside from being on the DL,” Guthrie said in one of the reports, ”so I don’t view it one way or another. I was able to throw a simulated game, which at least gave me the opportunity to go out there and face hitters.”
Guthrie was 3-0 in his last three stars, with 20.1 innings pitched, 0.44 ERA, four walks and 10 strikeouts. On the other hand, Chen was 0-2 in his last three starts, 15.2 innings pitched, 5.17 ERA, three walks and 10 strikeouts.
The Kansas City Royals are prepared to make this game interesting and they would love to try to bring the Orioles into another loss.
