Letran beats San Beda in the rivalry game

Manila, Philippines - Letran defeated its rival San Beda to a 64-53 victory in the NCAA Season 90 men’s basketball tournament Monday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Letran early took advantage of the absence of San Beda’s center Ola Adeogun as the Knights got a 16-6 first quarter lead, and limiting San Beda to just seven points in second quarter.

Ola Adeogun was sat out by coach Boyet Fernandez, as a disciplinary action for not attending the team’s last three practices, according to Sports5 courtside reporter Mara Aquino.

The game heated up in the third quarter when Red Lion’s star guard Baser Amer fell on the floor and was elbowed by Daryl Singontiko of Knights. Baser Amer didn’t return to the game for San Beda.

Coach Fernandez also called for technical foul, after non-call incident when Ranbill Tongco was hit in the face and fell in the floor. Unsportsmanlike foul also called to Letran’s Jamil Gabawan after throwing an elbow to David Semerad.

Cruz led the Letran Knights scoring 17 points, and grabbing 5 rebounds. Letran now improved to 3-6 win-loss record for 8th place in the tournament.

San Beda fall 7-2 record which tied with Arellano University in the top spot.
