College Football Playoff National Championship Game Final scores and results: Ohio Stae beats Oregon 42-20

The duo of Cardale Jones and Ezekiel Elliot did the damage and led the Ohio State Buckeyes in a 42-20 victory over the Ducks to grab the first College Football Playoff title.

Coming off in his third start, Jones completed 16 of 23 passes for 242 yards and one touchdown, and added 38 yards and a score on the ground while Ezekiel Elliot rushed for a career 246 yards and four touchdowns in 36 attempts.

Despite of the four turnovers from the Buckeyes, they managed the game through the defense, pressuring Marcus Mariota and stopping the Ducks in their third downs.

Mariota completed 24 of 36 passes for 333 yards and two touchdowns against one interception for the Ducks. However, his numbers were not enough to bring down the determined Buckeyes.

Halftime

Cardale Jones has finished 10 of 15 passes for 171 yards and one touchdown and added 48 yards and a score on the ground to lead Ohio State in a 21-10 over Oregon at halftime.

Ohio State has survived and maintained the lead after two fumbles as Oregon couldn’t take those chances on its offense.

Ezekiel Elliot has 98 yards and one touchdown in 11 rushes. Elliot is one of the reasons why Ohio State offense is clicking well against Oregon defense.

Oregon’s offense has struggled since the first drive. Marcus Mariota completed 18 of 23 passes for 193 yards and a touchdown but his numbers are not enough to put score on the board. Mariota’s offense was 1 of 7 on 3rd downs and it failed to connect a fourth and goal at the two yard line of the Buckeyes.

Jones completed 6 of 9 passes for 62 yards and one touchdown while Elliot rushed for 63 yards and one touchdown to lead the Ohio State Buckeyes 14-7 over Oregon in the College Football Playoff Championship Game at the first quarter.

Ohio State defense has stepped up to contain the offense of Oregon which started the quarter into a 7-0 lead. Mariota has completed 7 of 10 passes for 64 yards and a touchdown. Mariota also rushed for 22 yards in three attempts. Tailback Thomas Tyner has rushed for 46 yards in seven attempts.

The Buckeyes is playing with such a defense that denies the strength of the Ducks. By sending pass rushers to Mariota, Ohio State has completely shutdown the offense of Oregon.

At the start of the second quarter, Jones fumbled the ball and recovered by Oregon’s Alex Balducci at Oregon 39. Mariota moved the chains into Ohio State’s 2 yard line but the Ducks couldn’t get a touchdown, instead the ball went back to the Buckeyes with 11:49 left in the second quarter.
