Gilas falls to Ukraine

gilas pilipinasThe Philippine national men’s basketball suffered a devastating lost to Ukraine, 114-64, as they ended its campaign in the mini-tournament in Antibes, France Sunday (Monday morning PHL time).

After a good showing against host team France in their opening game of the tournament, Gilas Pilipinas was routed in their next two games by Australia and Ukraine.

Ranidel De Ocampo paced Gilas Pilipinas scoring 11 points while sniper Jeff Chan had 10 points as they were the only players to capitalize in double digits. Jayson Castro finished with nine points. The Philippine National team lost all his games in the tournament.

Gilas Pilipinas played without their naturalized player Andray Blatche and sat out guard Paul Lee to rest. Marcus Douthit replaced in for Blatche but had struggled the entire game finishing with just five points on an awful 1-of-7 shooting.

The Ukrainians were hot in the entire game from beyond the arc shooting 58 percent converting 19-of-33 three point shots while the Philippines shooting just 33 percent from the field and give away 22 turnovers.

Oleksandr Lipovyy with a game high 26 points and point guard Olexandr Mishula added 24 points. Seven of the Ukraine players scored in double digit for the lopsided victory. Ukraine remains undefeated in the tournament with two wins.

The Philippine National team will return back to Spain in preparation for the FIBA World Cup.
