Paniamogan leads JRU to derail Mapua

MANILA, Philippines — Philip Paniamogan exploded in the second half scoring all of his 26 points to carry the Jose Rizal University to an 87-78 triumph over Mapua in the NCAA Season 90 men’s basketball tournament Monday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
After being held scoreless in the first half, Paniamogan was awaken and started a third quarter run by the JRU Heavy Bombers. He scored 12 points during the third frame and then continued in the fourth quarter with three straight three pointers which lead JRU to a 77-66 advantage. Paniamogan scored 14 points in the 4th quarter.
“In the first half, I was forcing it too much. I wanted to score right away and that’s not the right attitude,” Paniamogan said, who missed all of his attempts from the field in the firsttwo quarters. ”In the second half, I came out with a different approach.”

The win put the Heavy Bombers to third place in the standings to end their First round campaign in a 4 game winning streak with 6-3 record.
Carlos Isit led the Cardinals with 21 points. Cardinals have a 1-8 record and remain in the bottom of the standings.
