Ravena’s double-double leads Ateneo to upstage UST in a rivalry game

Kiefer Ravena heroic performance led Ateneo Blue Eagles oust UST Growling Tigers, 69-58 second round of the UAAP Season 77 Seniors Men’s basketball tournament Saturday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Ravena took over the game for the Blue Eagles in the fourth quarter as he sparked a decisive 10-0 run with six minutes remaining to give Ateneo for a 61-49 lead over UST.

“Aside from scoring also helped us in rebounding,” said by Coach Bo Perasol on Ravena. Kiefer had double-double as he scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

Chris Newsome added 14 points and nine rebounds while point guard Nico Elorde scored nine points.

Karim Abdul paced the Tigers with double-double 17 points and 13 rebounds. Louie Vigil scored 14 and Captain Aljon Mariano added 12 points in a losing effort. The loss made the chance of the UST for final four berth complicated as they fell to 5-6.

Ateneo’s victory put them on second place (8-3) in the standing behind FEU.
