Jeron Teng explodes to beat the Blue Eagles

MANILA, Philippines –De La Salle University outlasts their archrival Ateneo de Manila University as they grind a narrow win 88-86 in second round of UAAP Season 77 on Sunday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

De La Salle star guard Jeron Teng scored a game high 32 points and grabbed six boards, he also live in the foul line by converting 17 out of 20 Free throw attempts. He outdueled his star counterpart Ateneo’s Kiefer Ravena who struggled from the field all game shooting just 35%.

La Salle got an early edge versus Ateneo in the first quarter, behind the performance of Teng as he scored 15. Ravena came up alive in the 2nd period as his shots came to fall down and scoring 12 of the first 16 points of the Eagles in the quarter. But still De La Salle led by eight, 44-36, at first half.
In the second half, the rival teams were in a tight battle. Chris Newsome sparked an Blue Eagles run in the 4th quarter as they took the lead 72-71. La Salle answered back with an 8-2 run, 81-77 entering the final two minutes. Ateneo tied the game, 81-81, but Teng and Perkins hit crucial shots as La Salle went up 84-81 with 18 seconds to go.

Newsome scored a quick two, and then Jeron Teng converted his free throws for La Salle. Chris Newsome hit a three-pointer with three seconds remaining to close the gap to one point, 87-86, but La Salle guard Almon Vosotros hit a free throw to seal the win as time expires.

Jason Perkins scored 18 points, Julian Sargent added 11 and Robert Bolick had 10 markers to help the Green Archers propel their sixth consecutive win of the tournament.

De La Salle victory put them to a 3-way tie for the top seed of the UAAP standings with FEU and Ateneo.
