University of Perpetual Help defeated Arellano University in a 101-86 triumph Monday to keep the third spot in the 90th NCAA Men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.
The big three of the Altas were impressive the whole game as Earl Scott Thompson had an all around performance with another triple-double this season with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Harold Arboleda had a career game with 28 points, grabbed 12 boards and dished out seven assist. Juneric Baloria was also red-hot from the field as he added 26 points to help the Altas to make revenge to the Arellano in the first round.
Baloria exploded in the second half as he scored 14 points in the third quarter and the Altas piled up an 84-69 advantage against the Chiefs before heading to the final quarter. Arellano tried to make a comeback narrowing the gap to 87-80 with six minutes remaining in the game. However, John Pinto fouled out for the Chiefs then Arboleda and Baloria connected their shot from beyond the arc to seal the win for the Altas.
The Altas improved their record to 8-4 and currently tied with Jose Rizal University at third place. Meanwhile, Arellano drops to second place with a 9-3 win lost card. .
